Physiotherapy Glasgow - Newlands Physiotherapy

What does Physiotherapy treatment involve?

  • A full detailed history of the condition/injury will be taken from the client The Physiotherapist will also ask about the client's medical history
  • A physical examination of the area(s) involved - inspection of the area(s), joint range of movement, resisted muscle tests, specific diagnostic tests as required, palpation of muscles and joints - expect "hands on" assessment.
  • Diagnosis will then be discussed and explained
  • Treatment plan formulated, agreed with client and then implemented
  • May involve application of Ultrasound therapy (or other electrotherapy modalities), "hands on" treatment such as joint mobilisation/manipulation, or soft-tissue massage
  • Sometimes acupuncture will be offered if Physiotherapist deems it appropriate (client must give their consent first)
  • Always involves Homework! The client will be sent away with advice and or exercises to work on to resolve/improve their condition

Physiotherapists must take into consideration any psychological, cultural or social factors that may influence the patient's treatment.

As all our physiotherapists are Chartered Physiotherapists, they are governed by the Rules of Professional Conduct laid down by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, all clients can be reassured that all are Registered with Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Additionally we can offer Hippotherapy as an intervention at sites in Glasgow and Renfrewshire.

Hippotherapy: This is a form of physiotherapy that uses a horse as the therapeutic modality. The multidimensional movement of the horse provides a dynamic base on which the child may be placed in order to facilitate balance.

Documented therapeutic effects include improvement in;

  • Awareness of midline
  • Coordination and balance
  • Muscle co-contraction and stability of the trunk
  • Sitting posture
  • Functional performance
  • Feeling of well being

Children requiring help with trunk stability, symmetry, sitting balance and gait re-education would optimally benefit.

Paediatric rates will be determined by individual needs & location of treatment.
